Remembering Together

Remembering Together

Memorial services throughout the Forum readership area were held at several different locations, over the weekend beginning on Saturday morning. In honor of the heroes of 9-11 we would like to share with you some of the photos we feel capture the spirit of the Americans that have been coming together for the last 11 years.

We hope you see what we see in these photos; people of all ages, races, religions—people as different as people can be –standing together as proud Americans; unwilling to forget– unwilling to be forgotten.

This photo spread is comprised of photos taken at : the Glendale Candlelight Vigil, the American Legion Hall Candlelight Ceremony at Remsen Memorial Park, 9/11 Candlelight Vigil at the new Juniper Valley Park Memorial and the Maspeth Federal Savings Bank Memorial Service held at the firehouse of Squad 288/Hazmat 1. The firehouse had the single largest loss of firefighters of any FDNY firehouse, We would like to offer thanks to the individuals and organizations in our communities that have organized and run these events for the last decade. You have provided so many people with the opportunity to share their grief and offer comfort to others. We believe the meaning of these events to our communities is seen on the faces in these photos.

Despite their sadness, we hope they soothe you as they did us and at the same time give you evidence of the great presence of hope and determination that has lived on in spite of an unproportional tragedy that we faced. Together. The rest of the photos can be viewed in the print edition of The Forum on pages 12 and 13 of both south and west editions.
