Howard Beach Relay Gets Off to a Good Start

Howard Beach came out on Sunday, to Paint the Town Purple, officially marking the beginning of the Third Annual Howard Beach Relay for Life. Purple was everywhere you looked, with bows and signs to decorate Crossbay Boulevard, balloons, cupcakes, pens, hats, shirts, magnets—just about anything one could think of was painted, dyed or purple to begin with and set out for sale to launch the fundraising campaign leading up to the Relay event.

With Relay set for June 11th and 12th in Charles Park, HB Relay Chairperson Phyllis Inserillo says she intends to beat prior year totals and make 2011 her most successful year yet. “I know we’re facing tough economic times, but I have seen how this community comes out in support of Relay,” Inserillo says with a big smile. And smile she should, as under her watchful eye more than $300,000 has been raised for the American Cancer Society and the HB Relay has quickly become the most successful ever in Queens.
