Police were pulled into an almost four-hour standoff with an armed man in Glendale.
He locked himself in the bathroom after firing on police and eventually committed suicide.
According to the NYPD, they got a call at 6:30 p.m. about a disturbance at 17-07 68th Street.
When officers entered the house, the resident, 34-year-old Mark Vasquez, fired three rounds at them.
Instead of returning fire, they retreated and called Emergency Services Unit and hostage rescue, an NYPD spokesman said.
They were unsure what was happening inside until they managed to get a robot into the bathroom where Vasquez was hiding.
Just after 10 p.m. officers saw by camera that he had shot himself in the chest.
They entered and found him dead in the bathtub.
