Autism Awareness Raised in Lindenwood

NYFAC founder Andrew Baumann was on hand to praise the efforts of Shyanna for her outstanding commitment to the organization, her sister and to fight autism close to home.

Armed with determination, Lindenwood teen Shyanna Constantino put together a plan to raise money for New York Families for Autistic Children and her sister Kaylene Star Vazquez. After organizing the event, she held a fund raiser at P.S. 232 in Lindenwood over the weekend.

In addition to the great crowd of supporters that came out to make the day a success, Shyanna incorporated a basketball tournament into the event that included about 70 players.

She said she and some volunteers made flyers, put them around in all the Lindenwood stores, private homes, doctor’s offices and posted all over Facebook.

“Autism has become a great part of my life as well as my family’s because of my sister,” said Shyanna. “Now that we are all very knowledgeable about autism, we are trying to do everything we can to help all autistic kids to be recognized and accepted for who they are.”

The much anticipated NYFAC Center for Autism is slated to open its doors on June 1.
