O’Neill’s, a community mainstay in Maspeth that was forced to close after a massive fire destroyed it in 2011, will celebrate its grand reopening on Friday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.
The ceremony will be held at the beloved restaurant, which recently held a soft opening, located at 64-21 53rd St. in Maspeth.
Residents said they are overjoyed that the restaurant – which has had Mets players tend bar and has held fundraisers for the spouses of police officers killed in the line of duty – is back in their lives.
Originally opened by the father of the current owner, George O’Neill, in 1928 under the name of the Plateau Tavern, the restaurant has gone onto become a wildly popular hangout spot for everyone from neighborhood regulars to members of the 1986 Mets team that clinched the World Series.
Always a place renowned for its food, the newly renovated O’Neill’s can seat more people than before and will offer everything from burgers to seafood – and, of course, some of the best beer in town.
